PLN Indonesia Power UBP Holtekamp Introduces FABA-Based Fish Shelters to Support Marine Ecosystem Conservation
Holtekamp, September 4, 2026 – As part of its commitment to environmental protection and marine ecosystem conservation, PLN Indonesia Power UBP Holtekamp is participating in the PLN Generation Unit Program to Provide FABA-Based Fish Shelters.
The program is an effort to make proper use of Fly Ash and Bottom Ash (FABA) while providing environmental benefits, particularly by creating new habitats for marine life.
The fish shelters are made using FABA as one of the construction materials. The FABA goes through mixing, molding, and casting processes to produce structures that are strong, neat, and suitable for use as fish shelters.
After the process is completed, the FABA becomes part of a solid structure and is no longer in loose form that could easily spread into the surrounding environment.
The use of FABA for fish shelters is carried out with proper processing and construction methods. The completed structures are expected to provide shelter for fish and other marine life while also serving as a place where new habitats can develop in the surrounding waters.
In this way, the use of FABA not only gives added value to a by-product of the power generation process, but can also support environmental conservation efforts.
To further ensure environmental safety, the use of FABA for fish shelters should be supported by material testing and compliance with applicable environmental standards and regulations. This is important to ensure that the benefits to the marine ecosystem are provided in a responsible manner.
The activity was attended by several stakeholders, including representatives of the Jayapura City Government, the Head of the Jayapura City Tourism Office, the Head of Muara Tami Police Sector, the Head of Holtekamp Village, as well as representatives from PLN, including the Senior Regional Manager of PLN Papua and West Papua, Manager of the Papua and West Papua Generation Implementation Unit, Manager of PLN Indonesia Power UBP Holtekamp, and representatives of the Manager of UBP PMU.
The FABA-based fish shelters are expected to provide long-term benefits for the marine ecosystem by serving as a place for marine life to shelter and grow, while supporting healthier and more sustainable marine environments.
The program also demonstrates the synergy between power generation activities and environmental sustainability efforts.
