From Corn to Animal Feed, Makaryo Tani Builds a Sustainable Farming and Livestock Cycle

Cilacap, October 5, 2026 – The agricultural activities under the Integrated Food Village Innovation Program (INNDESA) of PT PLN Indonesia Power Central Java 2 Adipala Generation Business Unit (UBP Adipala) are starting to show positive results.

The Makaryo Tani community group, which is supported by PLN Indonesia Power, successfully harvested a total of 2.2 tons of corn from an agricultural area of around 2,100 square meters.

Corn cultivation was carried out gradually starting in August 2026, with planting schedules adjusted for different parts of the farmland. The harvested corn was around 65 days old. The harvest was carried out once the crops reached the appropriate level of maturity, allowing the produce to be used effectively.

With a selling price of around Rp4,000 per kilogram, the 2.2-ton harvest, or 2,200 kilograms, has an estimated economic value of around Rp8.8 million for the group. The relatively good market price has also encouraged Makaryo Tani to continue developing its agricultural activities productively.

Makaryo Tani is a community group supported by PLN Indonesia Power that develops sheep farming through training, capacity building, and support for facilities and equipment. The livestock activities are integrated with corn cultivation to develop a farming and livestock business system in which both activities support each other.

The harvested corn provides economic value for the group. Meanwhile, leftover parts of the corn plants, such as stems and leaves, are used as raw materials for silage, a fermented animal feed that helps meet the nutritional needs of the sheep.

The integration also includes the use of livestock by-products. Sheep manure is processed into organic fertilizer, which can then be used to improve soil fertility. In this way, farming and livestock activities form a connected cycle that helps reduce waste.

Manager of Administration at UBP Adipala, Alin Kurniawan Purwandinita, said the corn harvest shows that local potential can be developed through an integrated approach while creating economic benefits for the community group.

“This harvest is the result of a process that has been carried out gradually and consistently since planting began. The harvested corn provides economic value for the group, while the leftover plants can be used as animal feed. At the same time, by-products from livestock farming can be reused to support agricultural activities. We hope this cycle will continue to grow and further strengthen the group's independence,” said Alin.

The farming and livestock system developed by Makaryo Tani creates a mutually supportive cycle. Agricultural products provide economic value, agricultural leftovers are used as animal feed, and livestock by-products are processed into fertilizer for farming.

This approach is expected to help reduce waste, lower production costs, and improve the efficiency and sustainability of the group's business activities.

For UBP Adipala, the development of Makaryo Tani is part of its efforts to build sustainable community empowerment based on local potential through the INNDESA program.

The community is encouraged to turn available local resources into productive activities that are connected to each other and create added value.

This approach is also in line with the values of Pancasila, particularly mutual cooperation and social justice. The collaboration between PLN Indonesia Power and the Makaryo Tani community is part of the company's efforts to strengthen community independence and welfare through the sustainable use of local potential.
