PLN Indonesia Power Builds an Integrated Energy Ecosystem, from Solar-BESS to MRO Services in the Asia-Pacific
Tangerang, September 22, 2026 – PLN Indonesia Power Group is strengthening its business transformation and energy transition efforts through three strategic collaborations announced at Electricity Connect 2026.
The collaborations cover the development of integrated solar power and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects, the strengthening of Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) services, and the development of national MRO capabilities to serve the Asia-Pacific market.
The agenda was attended by President Director of PLN Indonesia Power Bernadus Sudarmanta and Director of Business Development and Commercial Julita Indah. The event was witnessed by Indonesia's Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia and Chairman of the Supervisory Board of MKI Darmawan Prasodjo. Director of Gas Power Generation Operations of PLN Indonesia Power Daniel Eliawardhana also attended the series of activities.
President Director of PLN Indonesia Power Bernadus Sudarmanta said the collaborations demonstrate that the energy transition is not only about adding renewable energy capacity, but also about strengthening asset reliability, supporting industries, technology, and national capabilities.
“We want the energy transition to create broader value. It is not only about providing cleaner energy, but also about improving efficiency, strengthening domestic industries, increasing local content, and building Indonesia's capabilities so that we can become more competitive in the regional market,” said Bernadus.
One of the collaborations was established between PLN Indonesia Power and PT ACE Energy Service (ACEES) to develop a diesel replacement project at 10 isolated locations in Central Sulawesi.
The project has the potential to develop 60 MWp of solar power capacity and 200 MWh of BESS, with an estimated investment of IDR 3.3 trillion. The project is planned to be supported by financing from a consortium of Korean and Indonesian banks.
The project is also expected to increase the use of domestically manufactured products by utilizing solar panels produced in Indonesia by Trina Mas Agra Indonesia. It also has the potential to reduce the Cost of Electricity Supply (BPP) by around IDR 1,000 per kWh, depending on the characteristics of the electricity system at each location.
Director of Business Development and Commercial of PLN Indonesia Power, Julita Indah, said that integrating solar power with BESS offers a relevant solution for areas that still rely heavily on diesel power plants.
“The integration of solar power and BESS provides two key benefits: increasing the use of renewable energy and reducing dependence on diesel fuel. With an energy storage system, electricity generated by solar power can be managed more effectively, helping maintain system reliability while also creating potential cost efficiencies in electricity supply,” said Julita.
In asset management, PLN Indonesia Power's subsidiary, PLN Indonesia Power Services (PLN IP Services), has entered into a collaboration with PT ABB Sakti Industri to strengthen maintenance and procurement services for generators, motors, and Variable Speed Drives (VSDs)/inverters.
The collaboration covers equipment maintenance and repair, the supply of ABB products and spare parts, as well as generator and motor life assessments.
The partnership combines PLN IP Services' experience in managing power generation assets with ABB's technology and technical expertise to improve asset reliability and extend the operational life of power generation equipment.
PLN IP Services has also partnered with PT Barata Indonesia (Persero) and Technofit Sdn Bhd to develop a Turbine and Rotating Equipment MRO Center at the PKT Cilegon Plant.
The collaboration includes MRO services within PLN's operations, development of electrical products, increasing the use of domestic components, technology transfer, and human resource development.
PLN IP Services will act as the solution integrator and field contractor. Barata Indonesia will strengthen heavy workshop and manufacturing capabilities, while Technofit will contribute technology, technical expertise, and an international network.
Through these three collaborations, PLN Indonesia Power Group is building an increasingly integrated energy ecosystem, covering clean energy development, electricity cost efficiency, asset reliability, and the strengthening of national manufacturing and technology capabilities.
The development of MRO capabilities is also aimed at strengthening Indonesia's ability to perform maintenance, repair, overhaul, and life extension services for turbines and rotating equipment, while creating opportunities for Indonesian MRO services to enter the Asia-Pacific market.
