Supporting Energy Transition, PLN Indonesia Power UBP Mahakam Conducts B50 Fuel Testing on Keledang Diesel Power Plant
Samarinda, 27 January 2026 – PLN Indonesia Power UBP Mahakam conducted a performance test on the use of B50 fuel in diesel power generation engines. This activity was initiated and carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR) through the Oil and Gas Testing Center (LEMIGAS), to ensure that the B50 testing process is safe, compliant with technical standards, and able to produce accurate data for the implementation of environmentally friendly fuel. The activity forms part of the Company’s strategy to support the national energy transition and the utilization of domestic energy resources.
The B50 test was conducted to ensure that diesel power plants are technically ready to adopt cleaner fuel without compromising operational reliability. B50, a blend of 50 percent biodiesel and 50 percent diesel fuel, is expected to reduce carbon emissions while decreasing dependence on fossil fuels.
The static performance test at Keledang Diesel Power Plant (PLTD Keledang) included an evaluation of diesel engine performance under specific operating conditions. The assessment covered engine performance, operational stability, combustion efficiency, and system response to the use of B50 fuel. The results of this test will serve as a technical reference for the broader implementation of B50 across the diesel power generation sector.
Manager of PLN Indonesia Power UBP Mahakam, Firman Ramdan, stated that this activity reflects the Company’s commitment to supporting the sustainable energy agenda.
“The static performance test of PLTD Keledang using B50 is a strategic step to ensure that power plants operate optimally with environmentally friendly fuel, without reducing the reliability of electricity supply for the community,” he said.
He further emphasized that each stage of the testing process was conducted in a measured manner, in accordance with applicable technical standards, and under strict control.
“We ensure that the data obtained is accurate and can serve as a reliable basis for strategic decision-making in the development of sustainable energy,” he explained.
Through this activity, PLN Indonesia Power UBP Mahakam aims to obtain comprehensive technical data for evaluation prior to wider B50 implementation. The analysis of the test results is expected to ensure that plant reliability, safety, and operational efficiency remain well maintained.
The static performance testing at PLTD Keledang reaffirms PLN Indonesia Power UBP Mahakam’s commitment to supporting national emission reduction programs, optimizing the use of domestic energy resources, and maintaining a reliable electricity supply in East Kalimantan.
