PRESS RELEASE No. 008/RELEASE/PLNIP/UBPKRI/2026
PLN Indonesia Power’s Ramadan Safari at UBP Kepulauan Riau Strengthens Engagement and Supports Underprivileged Communities
Tanjungpinang, March 5, 2026 – In an effort to strengthen engagement and foster a spirit of giving during the holy month of Ramadan, PT PLN Indonesia Power Ramadan Safari at its Generation Business Unit (UBP) Kepulauan Riau. The initiative served as an important platform to reinforce solidarity among management, employees, and communities surrounding the company’s operational areas.
The event was attended by Independent Commissioner Anthony Leong and Director of Human Capital Management & Administration, Rido Hutomo. Representatives from other PLN Indonesia Power generation units, including UBP Ombilin and UBP Teluk Sirih, were also present, further strengthening inter-unit collaboration and synergy.
Conducted in a spirit of togetherness, the Ramadan Safari featured a series of activities including management engagement sessions, corporate briefings, charitable donations, and a communal iftar. The presence of company leadership at the generation unit reflects management’s commitment to maintaining close relationships with employees across operational regions.
In his remarks, Director of Human Capital Management & Administration, Rido Hutomo, emphasized PLN’s strategic role in Indonesian society. He noted that PLN is widely recognized as a trusted and valued institution, not only for its business operations but also for its consistent presence in supporting communities, including during times of disaster.
He further highlighted that while many state-owned enterprises have ceased operations over time, PLN continues to stand strong as one of Indonesia’s leading companies and has been recognized among the Fortune 500 Companies. This achievement, he noted, is a source of pride for all PLN personnel.
“All PLN employees should take pride in being part of this organization. Working at PLN is not only about earning a livelihood, but also about delivering meaningful value to society by ensuring reliable electricity supply across the nation,” he stated.
Rido Hutomo also underlined PLN Indonesia Power’s strategic role in PLN’s broader transformation agenda. The company now holds an expanded mandate, evolving from its previous roles as asset manager and operator to also becoming an asset owner in power plant management.
In line with the latest Electricity Supply Business Plan (RUPTL), the company’s managed generation capacity is projected to grow to approximately 28 GWh. This expansion presents broader opportunities for employees to develop competencies and advance their careers, particularly in asset management and ownership roles.
To support this transformation, employees are encouraged to develop additional competencies, including project feasibility analysis, strategic partnership development, project financing, and business negotiation. PLN Indonesia Power is also strengthening its Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) capabilities, particularly in the power generation sector, to support future project development.
To achieve top performance and sustainability, the company encourages its personnel to benchmark against global companies, not only domestic peers. Selected senior leaders will be given opportunities for international exposure programs to learn best practices from world-class organizations.
During the session, Rido Hutomo also emphasized the importance of innovation in driving company performance. Employees are encouraged to exceed corporate targets through innovation and breakthrough initiatives. One example highlighted from UBP Kepulauan Riau is the development of pyrolysis technology that converts plastic waste into fuel, contributing to environmental management while creating added energy value.
In addition, the unit is encouraged to actively capture aspirations from potential innovators, including expectations regarding recognition for innovations that deliver tangible value to the company.
Beyond business transformation and innovation, management also stressed the importance of building strong emotional connections between leaders and employees. Through forums such as sharing sessions, the company aims to strengthen employee engagement and create a more harmonious and productive work environment.
“Relationships between leaders and employees must be built with care. Management should view employees as part of a family, not merely as subordinates,” he added.
As part of the Ramadan Safari, PLN Indonesia Power also distributed charitable donations to underprivileged communities around UBP Kepulauan Riau. This initiative reflects the company’s ongoing commitment to social responsibility and its dedication to creating meaningful impact for society.
The symbolic handover of assistance was conducted by management representatives to beneficiaries, with the hope of bringing relief and happiness, especially during the blessed month of Ramadan.
The event concluded with joint prayers and a communal iftar in a warm and inclusive atmosphere. Through this initiative, PLN Indonesia Power aims to continuously strengthen values of togetherness, social care, and dedication in serving the community through reliable and sustainable electricity supply.
